[Click here for a copy of the original document issued by Ken McAlpine.]

AMENDMENT TO INTERPRETATION OF ARTICLE 14
Original Interpretation Issued 14 June, 2004
Amended 13 October, 2004

This amendment is issued by the Measurement Committee after consultation between the Technical Director, the Defender and the Challenger Commission.

The amendment was found necessary due to the mathematical formula for calculating the percentage change not yielding correct results for subsequent approved changes made after the first approved change.

Amendment

Section 12 of the interpretation is deleted:

12. The extent of modifications shall be calculated as follows: Percentage of this Modification = (Ao-Ar)/Ao * 100 where Ao is the area of the Original Hull Surface: Ar is the area of the Original Hull Surface which is unaffected by movement, removal, addition, fairing (greater than 5mm thick) or rotation; to be moved or removed;

And is replaced by a new section 12:

12. The formula used in the calculation of the extent of alterations shall be as follows: Percentage Change = Max(Ar,Aa)/Ao * 100 Where Ao is the area of the original hull Ar is the area of the original hull which is to be moved or removed. Aa is the area of the relocated part of the original hull or the new section to be added.
